Here are some handy hints and tips to avoid being scammed.

Helpful Tips to avoid being scammed

Genuine lotteries will never ask you to pay a fee to collect your winnings. “I hadn’t bought a ticket, so how could I win a lottery”

Never disclose security details, such as your PIN or full banking password with anyone

Don’t assume an email, text or phone call is genuine

Listen to your instincts – if it’s too good to be true – it probably is

Don’t be rushed, a genuine organisation won’t mind waiting

Never use a number given to you by someone who cold calls you, to check their credibility, such as the bank. Only use a number you know is genuine

Finances

It is hard at times to discuss finances with close Family and Friends if you think they are involved in some form of scams. If possible take time to go over Bank Statements.

Take time to go through bank statements as it may help to identify any payments being made regularly that you don't know about or know what they are for.

If something seems to good to be true it probably is!

If in doubt...
