Phillips Leads Labour To Victory
David Phillips looks set to become Labour Council leader after victory in Swansea.
Welsh Labour has made substantial gains in the local elections overnight, taking overall control of six councils so far.
The party retook control of Swansea, Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Newport. Also retaining Neath Port Talbot.
Welsh Labour leader and First Minister Carwyn Jones said the party had "reconnected with people" with "The momentum is clearly with Welsh Labour."
In Swansea labour councillors served up some devastating defeats to the Lib Dem run council, with one of the most shocking results coming in Cockett where all four council seats switched from Lib Dem to Labour.
Leader of the Labour Council, David Phillips admitted her was 'surprised' at the level of victory.
