BREAKING SHOWBIZ: You'll never guess who is returning to Star Trek!
For years it seemed the Star Trek franchise had seen it's golden years pass by. There was a time when movies were released every few years, and on the tele TNG, DS9 and Enterprise where all tickling that itch on the small screen.
Then it all stopped......
It wasn't until the franchise was rebooted on the big screen with the JJ Abrams vision that interest was reignited.
In 2017 a new Netflix Original brought the franchise back onto the small screen. 'Discovery' was a grittier take than what came before. It was an instant hit. With it's launch came news that it would not be alone. 'Several' Star Trek series and separate movies are in development. Excluding the JJ Abrams movie series, which will see the next movie (Star Trek 4) entering production in January 2019.
Rumours of one of the new series starring Star Trek legend Patrick Stewart (The Next Generation') have now been confirmed. It is still unknown in what capacity, though. It could be as a regular guest star, or in a rumoured series focusing on Jean-Luc .
Announcing his return to the role in a statement on Twitter, the actor wrote: "I will always be very proud to have been a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but when we wrapped that final movie in the spring of 2002, I truly felt my time with Star Trek had run its natural course.
"It is, therefore, an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him.
"Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over."
